A Note from Tom Heine, Aljex CEO

It Worked! Aljex Hosted Clients had Zero Server Downtime!
Disaster planning is one of those things that you won't know how well you are doing until you really need it. Well, we have been planning for hurricane Sandy for the last 16 years, and when it hit, we found out that we had prepared well.
Our central office is in Middlesex, N.J., about seven miles from Raritan Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, close enough to catch a large dose of Sandy’s fury. Four days after the storm as I write this, most of our employees are without electric in their homes, our office is still on generator power, and Verizon is still working on getting our long distance phone lines back up. But our team did a lot better than Verizon and the electric company. Our servers kept on serving, and our support team kept on supporting, right through the storm and the painful aftermath.
I am very proud…
that our team members prepared as well as they did, and then followed up with major dedication to be at the office -- even while their homes were still without electric, heat and phone service.
If your home or business was affected in any way by this enormous storm, we hope that you fared well. We look forward to working with and for you in the days and years ahead.
About that Disaster Plan
At Aljex, every production server incorporates redundancy in its major hardware parts. All production servers have fully redundant RAID 10 disk arrays. All disks are hot-swappable and spare disks are on hand.
Our servers have fully redundant power and network connectivity. If a power circuit or Internet connection fails, the data center supplies UPS battery power and/or generator power and/or switches power to secondary power grids as necessary. Network connections likewise automatically re-route over other Internet connections.

For every production server, there is a complete duplicate server in a different physical location. Each duplicate server has a complete copy of the operating system, application code, user account information and all customer data. The mirror server is always on, always ready to go, and updated to match its production server twice per day. It is a full hot back-up of an entire server.
Our backup servers are located in New Jersey & California, our hosting servers are located in Colorado, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas
